Millions and millions. Comical poem number 805 by Angela Lansbury

Apple blossom on tree. Fox resting on grass. Garden in Hatch End, Pinner, Middlesex, England, London, UK. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright.

Millions of blooms blossom on trees

Millions of blades of green grass

Millions of flowers in the beds

Millions of birds and butterflies pass

Millions of leaves on all the trees

Millions of waves on all the sea

Millions of years of the trials

Before they perfected sweet me

Millions of stars, millions of cars

Millions of miles, we don't drive far

Millions of grains of sand, salt and sugar

Millions of cells in me, all together

Millions of brain cells, lots of gains

Millions of thoughts make aches and pains

Millions of thoughts, better again

Millions of thoughts, most just the same

Millions of thoughts, future and past

Millions of dreams, but dreams don't last

Millions of thoughts, wonders, and yet

I had one thought, which I forget.

The Tree I Planted comical poem number 578 by Angela Lansbury

Chocolate tree.

In the garden I plant a tree

Which has a longer life than me

I'm sure that you would like to know

Why we old folks stilI plant and sow

The truth, dear friends, who wonder why

Is I don't think that I will die

It's wishful thinking, yes, I know

But that is why all gardens grow

So every mad, bad, silly creed

Can promise gold foil for good deeds

'cause I can't grasp my train station

Is made by imagination

Thank goodness that pigs cannot fly

To join the clouds which paint the sky

You know that we don't outlive trees

Yet you'll still plant them. So do I.

Some are stupid and some are wise

Some write poems, some tell lies

But I am wise, the whole world knows

The tree I planted was a rose.

Reflections On Reflections comic poem 172

I look at myself in the mirror

What do I think of that?

I think I am thin and beautiful

Why does the mirror say that I'm fat?

Reflections in the pool, Singapore. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. March 2023.

I exercise while the day's still cool

I swim to get slimmer

I look at reflections in the pool

Kind tall trees wave, and weave and glimmer

I'm reflecting on the reflections

It's something new to do

Never mind, forget introspection

It's a lovely world for me and you

Why does the water reflect blue sky?

I read but I forget

Keep reading, one day I'll remember

Sadly. I haven't remembered yet

Someone stops to talk, reflects my mood

He's a cheerful neighbour

I reflect all interaction's good

Despite mad chats and weird behaviour

I reflect the time for swimming's past

I've stopped swimming, just float

I reflect I'm ready for my breakfast

Solid, secure, thoughtless, like a boat.

A Wild Garden comic poem number 151 by Angela Lansbury

Two foxes in back garden, apple tree and roses. UK. Photo by Angela Lansbury.

We used to have a gardener

Who called once a week and moved the lawn

And trimmed rose trees to sensible heights

My machete's an umbrella, I feel prickled and forlorn

A garden is a lovely place

But we've no milk nor honey

Useless trees attract dogs, wasps, bees

Our annual gardener wants too much money

Our garden's full of wild life

Rats, cats, snakes, foxes, birds and bees

Welcome to squirrels - everyone

Except for you and me

But never mind 'cos love is blind

Our pot-holed lawn looks dappled

Only a poet could love a place

Where every worm has an apple.

That broken fence will cost a few pence

Rats feasted on my car engine

Although we spared no expense

The rat poison hasn't yet had a win

A mouse shows guests around our house

The ivy is strangling the gutter

The worms know they will be in for a treat

When we are soon six foot under.

How lucky we are

To have a garden and a house

We have it all, six dead neighbours,

Two sleepy neighbours' cats and an athletic mouse.

-ends-

I meant the cats are sleepy, contrasting with the athletic mouse evading the useless cats. The fox didn't catch the rats. But the phrase

'sleepy neighbours' cats' was unintentionally ambiguous. The sleepy neighbours, suggests they have wandering cats and straying dogs.

The large hole was made by the vixen, we think.

The mouse was not in this house, but my late uncle's. Dead in the breadbin. The mouse. Not my uncle.

We have had six neighbours die in the last decade, at intervals. Two elderly couples. Plus one man. One woman. Not appriate to discuss more here in the footnote to a comic poem. I am hoping to live to 100 you will have a few more comic poems to read.

Song Birds

Song

I Am With You
by Angela Lansbury

My sun face smiles, when you’re swimming
Buoys you up, so no self-harm comes
When you run, cook, eat, start slimming
Hear my sweet voice sing, say, 'Well done!'

I grew you safe, tucked in my womb
You left, one cord, like vines, entwined with me
Even when trapped in the tight tomb
Bound, like gold chains, for eternity
Each day trot out, scan round and see
Love’s endless waves, like leaves on trees
Like clear rivers, flow swift to sea
Thoughts and words shared, cost time, stay free

You travel far, plan, divert, roam
Laugh, downy ducks go paddling by
Cheered by warm thoughts of our dear home
We blue songbirds, fly through life’s sky.

New Year Poem by Angela Lansbury

New Year Wishes Poem
 by Angela Lansbury

I hope each New Year brings to you
The season's days of joy and ease
Like happy birds which sing and dance
And bounce each dawn and break the trees

Please, every year when you look back
List all you've done as each year ends
Smile and recall laughter and fun
And family and your ex friends.

Ignore small things missed or done wrong
The childlike adults who rowed and swore
Let's hope next year's a bit better
And naughty friends learned, don't keep doing more.

 Copyright Angela Lansbury 2016

I woke early and heard a bird singing. My neighbour Alice says it's probably a starling.
*** Above is my first draft.
I might change the I thought of changing the word 'your' in the last line to 'our'.

Let's compare it to the hymn All Things Bright And Beautiful. That has a new image in each line. So let's put more images in my poem. I've seen several people composing their own poems for Christmas cards or emails.

If you want to share this poem, please send your friends and family a link to this post. Thank you.

I must try a parody of Old Lang Syne.

Every year Grapedeal.com sends out a Christmas song parody using words relating to wine or wine bottles.
