Humorous Misunderstandings In Pronunciation comic poem 374 by Angela Lansbury

I've English friends from the Carribean

On Zoom Central America, too

Our Nigerian friends have lost their g

Are they thinkin' talkin' like you?

Some lose keys and some lose a letter

The lost letter is h, we teachers aren't cranks

With our help armies do better

Please send thanks, but not tanks

The Chinese lose h ut keep the tea

One mum told me her children were tree

I thought they must liked climbing trees

But they were bookish, yes, all three

There's a silent b, e, h, and g

Pronunce most letters in every word

Th in thee, th in three

Remember to say third and not turd

Tongue under teeth when saying third

I hope dear friends you won't forget

To say exactly the word you heard

A turd is something you see in the toilet.

Do you think we're born perfect, the Engllish Nation?

No, my Mum paid a teacher of elocution

Some adults still have good pronunciation

Listen to me, that's a cheap solution.

Drink, Drink, Drink - water

Drink, d-rink d-r-rink, water

I'm scared to tell you what I think
On holiday give up the drink
You'll lose your passport, Dad, son, daughter
Just stick to juice, milk, tea, or water.

In strange places stay alert
To be sure that you don't get hurt
Make sure that you avoid a fight
Don't walk into a tree at night

Drink, drink, drink water
Drink, drink, drink water

You bought a bottle then ordered a magnum
Went on to hoist a jereboam
You cannot drink all that alone
Call a taxi, let's go home

The local drink is very strong
They drink it, so what could go wrong?
You do know that they don't live too long?
No wonder they sing such bad songs.

After a drink you feel alive
Except you're not allowed to drive
You sing well, tell jokes and hear laughter
But find the toilet's too far after.

You buy a round, what could go wrong?
Nothing, until the money's gone
Remember your child, what you taught her
Sit down, shut up, drink your water.

My Funny Family (version 7) poem by Angela Lansbury

My Funny Family
by Angela Lansbury

My family is very strange
But they are extremely funny
Some of them are obscenely rich
Won't help us who beg for money

My mother talked for twenty years
But never stopped to pause for breath
Father always smiled and nodded
Nobody noticed he was deaf

Dear Mum didn't think it mattered
After we lost my mother, dear
I asked my widowed Dad, 'Tea? Tea?"
And realised he could not hear.

My uncle played the violin
Better than all, than me or you
Won scholarships, played on cruise ships
A fine player, but stone deaf, too!

Played for radio, BBC
A fine player, not one wrong note
He left me books on lip-reading
He'd been deaf as an old, dead goat.

Poor Uncle's toilet filled with weed
He had no cash for a plumber
Instead he taught one the trumpet
Yet the toilets stank all summer

My son says, "You're the weirdest one
'Cos you write comic poetry!"
I can't see why he thinks I'm odd
My family's more strange than me.

Grammatically it should end more strange than I am but me rhymes. Poet's license.
