First day of Holidays - Rewritten Several |Times. Comical Poems 853 By Angela Lansbury

Today's rewrite is

On the first day of my holiday I drew a little tree

Two little faces

Three palm tree places

four little cats

five little hats (or bats)

six little dogs

seven little frogs

eight mouths singing

nine arms swimming

Ten little hens

Next version

six dog tails wagging

seven old beds sagging

eight swimmers swimming

nine runners winning

ten climbers climbing

eleven diners dining

twelve drummers drumming

Previously I wrote this

I was thinking that songs for children should be up-to-date and educational. I want to update a numbers song. I thought of the first day of Christmas.

It was published in 1780 so it is out of copyright. There's a website called songfinder. But I decided it was safer to use Wikipedia. I found the words

On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree

On the second day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the third day of Christmas my true love sent to me
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,

And a partridge in a pear tree.

My updated version 1 Holiday with Parakeets starts:

On the first day of Christmas please draw for me

A parakeet in a pear tree

On the second day of holiday please draw for me

two cats and two red roses

three dogs with big eyes and tails and noses

four flower posies

five little fishes

six bowls and dishes

Seven swans all swimming

Eight cows and milking

nine children dancing

Ten gymnasts leaping

Eleven pipers piping

Twelve drummers drumming.

Version 2 On the First Day of Holidays In A Park

During the first day of holidays I went to the park

On a bright afternoon, before it it got dark

We swam in one heated pool

Had two cold shower to stay cool

version 2 On the first day of holidays In a Park

We rode on one wooden donkey

And climbed up two nets like a monkey

Walked on three old brick walls

Making sure we didn't fall

Version 3

We swung on one swing

And climbed up two sets of ropes

We ran through three tunnels

Asked for ice cream, full of hopes

Version 4 Holiday Break By the Lake

We rode on one little train

Which went round twice and round again

We saw three people walking dogs

By ponds with four fish and more frogs

Version 5 Holiday at Soft Play

We went to soft play at a zoo

Saw an animal or two

I saw one long-eared rabbit

Which had a chewing carrot habit

I saw two happy goats

Smiling at me by the moat

I saw three little sheep

Their white wool was very deep.

It grew dark and we were tired

From running with toys we'd acquired.

That was the most delightful day

Which started our long holiday

Ending it was such a sorrow

But we'll have more fun tomorrow.

***

And once someone fell on muddy ground

For five minutes cried, wailed, dreadful sound

Their Mum found mermaid sticking plaster

Soon I heard giggles, lots of laughter

Then we were yawning, and ready for a sleep

At the end of the day, my eyes could hardly keep (yawn)...

So we fed animals good food

Grandma said, we must go away

I wave goodbye to pigs and say

I promise to all of you

Grinning goats, my dears,

Dry your flowing tears,

Calm your alarming fears

We promise we'll come back again

To feed the ducks, and geese and hens

To feed and play

Another lovely day.

Noises Tuning Up 738 by Angela Lansbury

The silent house is full of noise

Created round the silent toys

The boiler makes a dreadful thump

A car door slammed and made me jump

The fridge is like an orchestra

The air is filled with ringing

The doctor says its tinnitus

Like deaf Beethoven singing

A noise on a chocolate paper

In Greece was just a spider

Maybe a gecko in a shoe

Nocturnal cats have lots to do

In olden days they blamed a ghost

The letter box, the early post

The milkman, an electric car

A distant train, a cow, dog, war

But I rejoice at the world's voice

That I can hear what's near round here

Mechanical and living things

All out of tune, but try to sing

Read my words written on a page

I hear them declaimed on a stage

The songs outside, echo songs inside

My teeth grind like a great train ride.

St Patrick's Green comical poem 535 by Angela Lansbury

St Patrick's Day the Colour green

Is on the pubs in every scene

The brightest green you've every seen

In drinks, on chairs, balloons and hair

The colours green, orange and white

Are sure to bring all great delight

Drinking by day, singing by night

And smiling all night til daylight

In some cities you see parades

New Yorker smile and wave all day

Singapore - hats given away

At pubs which wanted all to stay

Chicago turns its river green

And green drinks make the weirdest scheme

Different things in different places

Green on spectacles and faces

Ireland has a lucky shamrock day

Montserrat has a holiday

Each country celebrates its way

With bagpipes, harps, or dance all day

I see that opportunity knocks

Although I do not dye my locks

It would give all my friends a shock

I'll stick to a green tie and socks

Afterward I'll store them away

And send emails in which I say

My box of Irish goods will stay

Locked in box rooms til Patrick's Day.

Has Anyone Seen My Simile? Comic Poem 170

Has Anyone Seen My Simile

Comic Poem number 170 by

Angela Lansbury

Has anyone seen my sweet simile 10

Moved or stolen my magic metaphor

My brain is oozing with choc'late ideas

I'll phone you a feast, a buffet, much more

A poem is like a cake baked with words

Rhymes like layers of cream attract keen eyes

Strong syllables beat like background music

Big birthday cards, show photos of french fries

The thoughts fly like postcards sent from the past

The chorus chirps like the crickets at night

Verses sweep on like relentless rivers

Like an orchestra's notes lead left and right

Wash hands, erase old, dirty emotions

Drape yourself clean and pristine in new clothes

Ready to face the world dressed in best thoughts

Phone friends, sing on balconies, from smart shows

Like boys meets girls, like large perfumed flowers

Like ballerinas spin spiral scarf twirls

Like eating meat stews sniffed and stirred for hours

Renewed, dance fast, cross the stage of the world

As paper notes float down for a good cause

As children giggle and old folk chortle

As the chorus line curtsies for applause

Writer, reader, hearer, feel immortal.

Happy or Unhappy Birthday? Comic Poem No. 139

Happy birthday, tut tut

I love the cake, but but

I'm supposed to be on  a diet

I'll have to eat it on the quiet

Birthdays have changed

Since Covid-19

You cannot blow the candles out

You don't know where the germs have been

Another birthday, boo hoo

I don't want to be older than you

Where has the year gone, I say

I'm a year older than yesterday

Another birthday, today it's yours

That's why I'm sending you applause

It's a piece of cake, a glass of wine

Another photo, I feel fine

Because it's not my birthday

Mine is far away

You can be sighing, nearer to dying

Glad it's not mine, it's yours today

Birthdays are best for children

On the scale between girls and boys

Lots of singing out of tune

Balloons, parcels and noise

Toddlers are easily amused

Every day new food is fun

It's great to have survived your first year

When you are only one

Let's have a smiley photo

One year nearer to walk

One year older, one year dearer

Nearer to thank you, love you, small talk

Happy birthday, happy birthday

Smile Smile Smile

Granny hasn't felt this good

For someone else's birthday, for a long, long while.

Community of the Retiree (Comic Poem 123) by Angela Lansbury

I don't live in a grand commune

But in a small community

Worldwide writers seeking readers

Facebook and blogs bring them to me

That little baby which I carried

Is now a father, newly-married

They hate advice; avoid dangers

So, instead I'll advise strangers

The smallest unit's when pregnant

Mother cum baby, you'll agree?

But suddenly when you give birth

Two turns into a harassed three

What can you do, what can you say

This Gran's on Zoom, too far away

Life's lonely in a silent room

Toothless smiles with waves make my day

Yes, your nearest help's your neighbours

I'm sure you've heard of this before

It's easy to make friends nearby

Start knocking on your neighbours' doors

Then when you're running from a fire

Or hear shrill alarm bells ringing

You can shout warnings as you pass

Even if you're bad at singing

I gave Chinese friends oranges

To celebrate Chinese New Year

Their food and fruit fed me a month

Of fruitless, lazy, living here

My recipe is, all grow fruit

Veggies and flowers in old boots

I find new use for broken pots,

Save landfill from trash can what-nots

We need to save small precious seeds

And think of Kiev, under siege

You never know what we might need

Nurture green talent in our liege

'Dig for victory', nuclear war

Britain's World Wars, and Singapore

Tsunami, hurricane, who knows

What weather, war or Covid blows

Then we'll be grateful, you will see

Each linked to our community

To prove we care, prepared to share

Mushrooms and fruits grown in old boots

Do you know Basil? I have thyme

To grow whatever suits this clime

Not green-fingered? Don't despair, a

Rampant as rabbits aloe vera

I've trouble keeping things alive

But ants, cockroaches, fruit flies thrive

The Chinese, on starvation bred

Eat crispy insects, live or dead

Eat oysters live, Maoris drink blood

Moths eat my clothes, everything's food

Ignore rules saying don't, or should

When starving, foreign food tastes good

So pray, whatever you believe

God, send good neighbours in my need

I gave them mushrooms, may they show

With tomato or potato

Thank you, it's free? I pounce with glee!

It's pale or stale? That's fine by me

Smile, water plants is what I do

Give thanks, advice, send words to you

If you've no fruit, send calories

In tins, plastic, bottles, wink, wink

You know, when pushed, I won't say no

Tap water, wine - 'reviving' drink

Think about it, and we'll agree

I'll give to you, you give to me

They can't tax friendship, sharing's free

Joyful retired community.

Harry was hoping to marry💘👫
A happy girl from Barry😀
But she strung him along
By singing a song
It was more worry than he could carry.
