Stealing An hour poem 694 by Angela Lansbury

My bedcover, red with white birds flying. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright.

I know I ought to go to bed

When night time cleaners clear my head

Yet every night I stay up late

I've thoughts to write which cannot wait

I'm trying to give life meaning

I love the quiet of the night

Protect laughter, stop life's screaming

Postpone facing traffic noise, light

And yet I know that I'm stealing

Hours which belong to tomorrow

Like taking two biscuits, chocolates

Means less later, to my sorrow

Some say you steal from life's end

If in your youth sleep hours you spend

Who knows what fate will throw my way

I'll grab another hour today.

All The World Is Mad But Me comical song 668 by Angela Lansbury

Let's agree half the world is mad

We know the other half is bad

I'm looking for a new, sane, friend

It's hopeless. Sometimes I feel sad

A few decades before my time

Smart but mad women won the vote

Yet now some think black cats rule life

What's superstition's antidote?

Angela Lansbury looking shocked. Photo by Angela Lansbury.

The streets are full of people who

Wear masks and scarves and funny hats

Religious, football, uniforms

You need ten hats to join all that

Party politics divides them

Plus the graffiti on the wall

If my only friends were those who're sane

I'd have no friends at all

I understand teenagers

Who want to raise their voice

But I have to be quiet

I do not have a choice

I have friends of all religions

And skins of every hue

And every kind of politics

And superstitions too

Some think that God spoke to them

Some believe in the big bang

Some think home school, and no rules

Others that insulters should hang

Some won't eat pig, some won't eat beef

Some won't eat lamb, some won't eat meat,

No fish, raw fish, no milk, no eggs

Be gluten free, no sugar, what's left to eat?

As for me, today's thoughts

Keep quiet is what life's taught

Hunters, don't show what you've caught

Or all your friendships come to naught

An theist, agnostic, or a humanist

A left wing, right wing, woke or communist

If I told my friends they are wrong

I'd never be kissed and never missed

So if you want to know what I believe

I believe there is no need

For me to stir the water

Upset your transgender daughter

And if I have a special diet

I shall try to keep quiet

Yet some things have gone the other way

I can say I'm dying and sick today

I can't fly the flag of my nation

But can mention menstruation

I don't know where this debate will end

But hope to keep all my batty friends

If I'd known my husband was a rocker

But next weekend was a mod

I'd have had tears, not fifty years

With one who won't believe in God

Because people who at first seem sane

Are secretly mad, but I don't complain

For though it drives me up the wall

If I stuck to the sane, I'd have no friends at all.

What Shall I Wear? Dreamy Dress, Dreamy Hair comic poem number 464 by Angela Lansbury

 What's shall I wear?

I'll comb my hair

I'll ask my spouse

They do not care

I'll wear a hat

Look good in that

Take off my glasses

No blind as a bat

Fake fur like a cat

Ask strangers, chat

Do I look fat?

They do not want to answer that

I'll have to diet

On the quiet

What do I weigh

I dare not say

Surprising what

Mirrors don't show

What only I

And my unerwear know

What am I saving this silk dress for

Who can remember what I wore

They can't even be sure

If we've ever met before

What Shall I wear

I'll wsh my hair

Dress for an imaginary

Milionaire - or billionaire

Sometimes you are dressed up in dreams

But the world's not what it seems

Your clothes are splitting at the seams

And the president is wearing jeans

In dreams I am dressed like a queen

My clothes are not vintage has-been

My wardrobe's like theaatre scenes

Each dress has pockets full of dreams.

Happy or Unhappy Birthday? Comic Poem No. 139

Happy birthday, tut tut

I love the cake, but but

I'm supposed to be on  a diet

I'll have to eat it on the quiet

Birthdays have changed

Since Covid-19

You cannot blow the candles out

You don't know where the germs have been

Another birthday, boo hoo

I don't want to be older than you

Where has the year gone, I say

I'm a year older than yesterday

Another birthday, today it's yours

That's why I'm sending you applause

It's a piece of cake, a glass of wine

Another photo, I feel fine

Because it's not my birthday

Mine is far away

You can be sighing, nearer to dying

Glad it's not mine, it's yours today

Birthdays are best for children

On the scale between girls and boys

Lots of singing out of tune

Balloons, parcels and noise

Toddlers are easily amused

Every day new food is fun

It's great to have survived your first year

When you are only one

Let's have a smiley photo

One year nearer to walk

One year older, one year dearer

Nearer to thank you, love you, small talk

Happy birthday, happy birthday

Smile Smile Smile

Granny hasn't felt this good

For someone else's birthday, for a long, long while.
