Each Time I Walk Down The Road comical poem / song 685 by Angela Lansbury

Walking boots. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright.

Each time that I walk down the road

I look at your former abode

On the far corner of the street

I remember when we would meet

I met you late, so late, in life

My fate fixed at a garden fete

Both alone, parted from our mate

So we made a romantic date

You came round one Saturday night

I dreamed of how you'd hold me tight

You gave me a bunch of flowers

We talked joyfully for hours

I thought that we were fixed for life

I'd be your happy second wife

But no, I was wrong, what went wrong?

I pushed too soon, came on too strong

Your words now echo in my head

'You like me more than I like you

I'm sorry but what I must do

Is get my coat, goodbye, thank you

'I'm glad I came, but you should know

Because we're bound to meet again

So, although this romance must end

I'm sure that we can still stay friends.'

I won't mope,  but no longer hope

So long ago it seems a dream

But I remember with pleasure

That night's first moment I treasure

For a year or two, I saw you

Sometimes when I walked down the road

When I passed your childhood abode.

You'd called on your mum. So I halloed

For one moment you'd look at me

You'd smile pleased, sorry, knowingly,

Then look back over your shoulder

And say, 'It's late. I have to go'

Your mother died, you never cried

I joined you at the funeral

I showed my husband your new wife

Sad, glad, we'd all moved on in life

Your house for sale, your house was sold

The house, like me, was growing old

The flowers gone, another face

A concrete drive, a different place

I still see you on the internet

 I should forget, but remember

As I walk down the rebuilt road

Where others rebuilt your abode.

I think as I walk down the road

Of you, young, in your old abode.

As I walk down the now changed road

Still haunted by your old abode.

Soup Trick Limerick

There was a girl from Guadalupe
Who made the most delicious soup
She fed it to the local troops
So they were always cock-a-hoop
When they saw the girl from Guadalupe.

The proper way to write a hit limerick
Is to make the first line like the last
If you want to be read, repeated and heard
You need to observe how to order the words
The proper way to write a hit limerick.

You are never too tired, or busy, or sick
To spend a second on a limerick
It can hit heavy, wrong, long, like a dropped brick
Yet impress 'cause it's witty, often done slickly
Like life, love, and soup, short, over too quickly.

Inspired by the word Guadalupe, a city in Mexico.

The word trick in the title is ambiguous. A trick is both a deceit and a clever, quick, successful action.

Funny Flowers In The Snow

It's sunny, then it's snowing
I see new flowers in the snow
The weather has confused them
I wonder if the dumb things know

They're silly, but they're pretty -
Now the sun's come out again!
I suppose they had a nice drink
From this morning's dismal rain

The whole world is a cemetery
The dinosaurs are turned to stone
But we've got cute little plastic ones
To please keen kids in every home

The pharaohs left a lot behind
Dead bodies wrapped in gold
Paintings on floors and ceilings
Great, cursed wonders to behold

The Romans with their weapons
Left their helmets, walls, old stones
Left their language, their heritage
Their glory, gravestones, meatless bones

Scary Vikings under London's buildings
Plague victims under passing trains
Madame Tussaud's, pop stars and horror
Some things best not seen again

Yes, the whole world's a cemetery
Great-grandparents buried underground
Just as well, they wouldn't like it
With our neighbour's loud jazz sounds

After my life's rollercoaster
I don't want to leave you tears
Better some jokes and laughter
To help you struggle through your muddled years

Yes, the whole world is a cemetery
Know we're all built on crumbled past
As we've been taught, life is too short
Most things, thank God, do not last

Shut your eyes, in prisons, hospitals
So in your last dark hours
In your mind paint pretty pictures
Of the stupid, happy flowers

Be mindful, in the present
Watch where you leap, step, go
But when in doubt, remember
Daft, sweet flowers in the snow.

Song Hot Memories by Angela Lansbury

Hot Memories
by Angela Lansbury

When I am hot
I go for a swim
It cools me down
And makes me thin

I went for a swim
But the pool was closed
So I ran in the gym
And I thought about him

He had a name
I can't forget
So I searched for him
On the Internet

I wrote to him
But he never replied
I used to wonder
If he had died

Over the years
I met other men
But I still dreamed
That we'd meet again

We'd both recall
Old memories
But life moves on
That's how it is

I'm glad that we met
We both would say
It's for the best
We part today

Fond memories
But love turns cold
It's long ago
We're both too old

I must admit
You look the same
So there's no point
In finding blame

Life has been kind
I can't complain
Goodbye old love
Let's meet again

Here's the problem
Here's the danger
Rapport takes time
We're now strangers

Life has been kind
I can't complain
Yet I still dream
We'll meet again.
