Noise and Music. Comical poem 747 by Angela Lansbury.

When you are young you dance and are bold

I heard you lose your hearing when you're old

But that doesn't cause me fear and spoil my joys

It makes appreciate every little noise

I heart the audience happily clap

The ticking clock, the dripping tap

The high voice child, the deep voice man

The train, bus, plane, car, van, coach, tram

The old may be stooped, frail and lame

But brighten when you call their name

Choose to be happy, it's a choice

The greatest joy - hear a friend's voice.

The Bridge From Night To Day comic poem 226 by Angela Lansbury

I dreamed I suffered mild distress

At a hotel breakfast wearing my night dress

Daylight blows guilty nonsense far away

So I'm glad to greet and start my innocent day

Down by a big cool blue swimming pool

Are teachers from the tiny tots morning school

Teachers blow away small adult troubles

Busy blowing giant rainbow bubbles

Delighted children race around

As elusive bubbles drift down to the ground

A happy chance lets me glance

As burst bubbles weave a broken rainbow dance

I trot off merrily on my way

But there's another joy today

On the other side of the pool

Is another cute kiddie school

The kids line up in height mismatched

To play a joyful game of throw and don't catch

To take their turn to throw a ball

To bounce against - or miss - the wall

Inside they go to learn much more

To fold torn paper into four

Such keen and anxious little faces

Learning how to tie their tiny laces

The tots don't have a single care

They wear bright ribbons in their hair

At lunch time proudly show what they now know

The joy of tying an untidy big ribbon bow

The lesson is to be like them

And let my child mind fill again

With simple tasks I'll learn somehow

In the oft repeated stopped watch now.

I've lots of time to fill my mind

With joy and leave my cares behind

Now I'm retired, my life's all play

Each day starts one long, wasted holiday

I must let happy visions fill my mind

And leave all niggles far behind

I can fill day's long, languid hours

Day-dreaming of fairytale ivory towers

I step outdoors to a fairtale scene

Of palm trees framing a sea of green

Across the red bridge, where tall palm trees show red

Lovely visions of  small orange flowers fill my little, empty head.

Reflections comic poem 223 by Angela Lansbury

Cashew Heights Condo Swimming Pool. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright.

Every morning starts with bright and fresh dawn

The clock tick tocks regularly until night

Each day dozens engrossed walk and talk

One sits alone, weeps, from the fright of a fight

While dozens go out to drink and eat

Under the palm trees, parasols, pines

One stays home, enjoying deep sleep

New readers, new times, I can re-use old rhymes

Look at an old couple's son or daughter

Their faces reflect like the blue pool's water

Daytime and life take us down the same road

But we all end at a private abode

Grandchildren are passing exams in their head

Grand-dad's beyond caring, because he is dead

The young folk take taxis away from dangers

Country folk dance, with friends, not strangers.

The young have jokes, and songs and laughter

With not a thought for what comes after

Each new day there's strong sun and light, fine rain

And this cycle repeats, again and again.

Steam Train, Praise And Blame, Comic poem by Angela Lansbury - comic poem number 204

Author
Poetry Which Rhymes
That train, that train, that train again,
It trains my whole mind to reframe,
To times when I, a wondering child,
Enjoyed time wandering in the wild,

Would see the puffing , swirling steam,
A white delight to save for dreams.

Good to behold, but truth be told
Steam trains would turn white washing black
And veil the air, pollute your lungs
Cleaner times now, no going back

Some kind driver has spent all day
To bring this vision down our way

Amazed that with our legislation
Who lets pollution hit our station?
Arrive by day, escape by night
I don't ask. I am too polite.

So let's just keep our fantasy
And let our eyes feast on steam's dance
And dream of good times in a trance
Re-living innocence - rare chance.

We now have clean, fast electric trains
Yet let, slow, steam trains, decorate our brains.

Romance Lost Long Ago Invading Today

You were my first love
So long ago
What if, what if
We'll never know

Recall how it began
With an angry young man
And how he danced so free
Full of wild energy

I would lurk around
My eyes on the ground
And look at you shyly
And glance at you slyly

I remember the nights
Of virgin delights
I bought your silver ring
Wond'ring what it would bring

Not a gift, at my cost
And then it was lost
But a dozen red roses
Yes, a dozen red roses

How do you see the past?
Was it too good to last?
Do you still think of me
And how things might be?

Mum who drove us asunder
Is now six foot under
And sometimes I wonder
And sometimes I wonder

I remember the day
When you walked away
With your new rucksack
And never looked back

For when I broke away
For a year and a day
I thought you might come back
On the same old track

I felt young and alive
I thought love would survive
But you would not try again
So I tried other men

I have your old photo
It brings me delight
Three decades ago
Not like now on your website

For I see you are old
For years love's been cold
You're not a teenager
But just an old stranger

Are you thinking of me?
How much would it take
To call you up now?
Would it be a mistake?

Would you just pretend
To be once more my friend?
So you could call the end
Go once more round the bend!

You're not a teenager
Just a wrinkled old stranger
And the biggest danger
That's the biggest danger

The old love keeps me fired
Because I'm feeling tired
For years love's been cold
And we're both now too old.

Every Day There's Work And Play by Angela Lansbury

Every Day (there's work and play)
by Angela Lansbury

Every day the bright sun comes out
Every day the robins hop about
Every day windfalls when a lawyer reads a will
Then the postman brings the taxman's bill

After breakfast we work, at eleven stop to munch
Then we work or study then stop for lunch
We read of the wars and troubles far away
As the children in the schools laugh and play

Along the street, the dogs are walking
The garden goes quiet, the cat is stalking
The birds see the cat so they don't stay
When they see a cat it's best to fly away

We go to the doctor and he gives us a pill
We go to the dentist and he gives us a bill
Everywhere old people wave goodbye
New babies born smiling get tired and cry

Every evening someone gets a kiss
Somewhere some spend a day or night of bliss
Some do right and some do wrong
Tides go in and out, the world spins on

You can have a dream and make a wish
That oceans and farms are full of fish
That the world will always be full of men
And the night will fall and the day start again

You can travel and see new smiling faces
Stay home see old smiling faces
Travel and see new exciting places
Books and albums show home's old places

You can fly like a bird
Or cruise on the sea
Some things cost but others are free
Try somebody new or stick with me

 Every night the singers croon
Lovers walk home by the light of the moon
Poets re-use the same old rhymes
Because they've stood the tests of time

Every day the bright sun comes out
Evening morning the robins hop about
Yes, the world will always be full of men
And the night will fall, then the day's dance starts again.
