You Are A Tube comical poem 725 by Angela Lansbury

Brunel statue on Paddington station in London, England. Photo by Angela Lansbury Copyright.

We ride upon the London tube

Which carries crowds from place to place

We listen for the destination

Distracting noise, trip feet, frown face

Each body, too, is like a tube

Water drunk in, must then come out

Food follows like the circle line

Drops energy, and germs, no doubt

We scatter workers through the town

To break fast, lunch, and dine and sup

They say that what goes up comes down

When sick what went down comes up

Choose well where to spend day and night

If you go home, sit, watch telly

Drink too much wine, you sleep or fight

But drink beer, get a beer belly

Don't forgot what we should expect.

There's logic, warning, in the world

As science says, cause and effect

Maps, banners, signs, results unfurled.

The London underground is called the tube because of the tunnels.

The Joys of London's Underground Trains comical poem 520 by Angela Lansbury

 Brunel statue, Paddington station.

The trains are travelling round and round

The underground with their roar-in sound

The passengers are running up and down

The escalators to the underground

I love the hand-written signs

Which joke and meet and greet

And the kind souls who smile

And keenly offer me their seat

The posters give me information

Something new on every station

There's Sherlock Holmes, and Shakespeare, too

The Elizabeth line which shines brand new

With lifts which keep grandma beside

As escalator passengers ride

The safe glass doors, wide corridors

One of London's new joys for sure.

When overhead you might see rain

Waiting for buses in cold's a pain

Brunel's statue on the overground

Even more to see if you take the lift down.

Sherlock wears a deerstalker hat

I wonder if he has a map?

I'm sure he'll smile and never frown

If he finds himself on the Underground.

Climbing the Volcano

Climbing a volcano
Is not my idea of fun
The map says it is dormant
"How d'you know when it is done?'

I ask my husband
Who's going off to climb
Up a volcano
His choice, not mine

He pulls up the map
Says these islands were made
When volcanoes erupted
He's not dismayed

My husband likes trekking
The risk is small, he doesn't mind
His group walks up volcanoes
They say that love is blind

I used to wonder why
People lived in a volcano's reach
Why after a tsumani
They lived beside the beach

Some people gloat at taking risks😃
Volcano watchers stay alert, grow excited
They rush cameras to danger
When it erupts, they're delighted

Others shrug at dangers
Say, 'When it's your time you go
What will be will be
Only God can know.'

Others are simply scientific
Say: 'Carbon makes fertile soil
The ash for planting is terrific
Abundant crops and less toil.'

They say, 'In the long run
We are all dead.'
Reaching a volcano's summit is
Just a dream, or nightmare, in your head.
