Pills For A Subtle Spine Fracture comical poem 614 by Angela Lansbury

 Seeing seven boxes of pills

Is enough to make you feel ill

I've noted which I took and when

And when to take them all again

Caffeine will make me bounce and beep

While codeine sends me straight to sleep

A quick way to get forty winks

But not with alcholic drinks

So when friends offer me Champagne

I have  a choice and must explain

It's drink or codeine to kill pain

I think I'll try Champagne again

Physios called, I can't complain

They brought a small size walking frame

It has an adjustable height

For bathroom visits twice each night

Theyll get a bar fixed on the wall

So in the shower I don't fall

One good thing despite waving pain

Is that's not costing me at all

If I were pain-free, I'd improve

But I won't trouble God above

World War Three is bigger than me

WhatsApp friends promise prayers, love.

I've got water, coffee, caffeine

Paracetamol, codeine, Cal

-cium, laxatives, Thyroxine

Notes to tell doctor when I've been

I've trained myself to swallow pills

By taking huge gulps of water

If I sit still, don't move an inch

My life's full of joy and laughter.

Loving Son's Phone Call comic poem 221 by Angela Lansbury

I carry my phone all the time
I might get an important call
Good news will make me feel so fine
I welcome all, well, almost all

Sunday I was feeling lonely
When I was home, bored and alone
So I was glad someone called me
Was that some good friend on the phone?

Some callers I don't understand
Don't know my name, sex, where I am
They ask me questions in Chinese
No friend, it's just another scam

They want to sell me things for stairs
When I live in a bungalow
Or sell me pet food, I've no pets
I really think they ought to know

A voice I know - why, it's my son!
I am so pleased that I am wanted
How lovely, kind of him to call
He does not take me for granted

How glad I am when my son calls
First checks if I am welĺ or ill
He'll help me, if I pay his bill
Last, urgently, Mum, write your will.

Wild Otters Seen In Singapore Comic Poem 168 by Angela Lansbury

Wild Otters Seen in Singapore

Comic Poem 168

By Angela Lansbury

[10:30, 26/03/2023] Angela Lansbury BA Hons:

The otters came to eat pond fish

All three of them, a family

Large fish, carp, are a tasty dish

‘Chase them off!’ “Rather you than me!’

The guards ran up, they shouted loud,

The otters scarper, we're a crowd,

A dead fish thrown into a bin

Pristine, curved eye - and fanned out fin?

But stiff, still, with a gaping mouth?

‘Don't eat it, it will make you ill !’

‘What’s to be done? High barriers?

Tough love - big otter carriers!’

Although our link with nature’s lost

‘We must think of safety, of health

The condo must count costs, what’s lost

Consider all, not just oneself.’

‘No matter what we did, or saw

Call the Otter Society

Today hang back, obey the law

Let them act - with propriety

‘Block the canal, their route, but do

Let raging water filter through …’

Then we won't see, another night,

Such charm, delight, and fright, excite.

Life's Rollercoaster

Life's Rollercoaster

by Angela Lansbury

Life is a rollercoaster
Life has its ups and downs
Most of the people you meet have smiles
But a few are bound to have frowns

Life is what you make it
Most are not both deaf and blind
You can see and hear what you want
And choose what you want to find

Some days you are really well
Other days you find you're ill
You've a choice, use your voice
You can wait, or smile, or take a pill

You can try not to get depressed
You can do everything right
You can exercise and get your rest
And wait for day to follow the night

Smile at every child, woman and man
Be remembered as a sunny soul
Always do the best that you can
Forget bad parts and see the good whole

Every day somebody dies
But thousands more march on
Be silent for a moment
Then rejoin the world's wonderful song

You are a pearl in the necklace
You can be a joy in everyone's day
You can inspire them to carry on
To feel you're near when you're far away

Every mother has fears and hopes
For every child, girl or boy
Be the bad things' antidote
And add to the world's bank of joy

See how you can help others
Then you'll forget your pain
While you are busy helping them
You'll find that you're content again

You can be the teacher
The guardian angel on the shoulder
You can be the preacher
To make the timid feel bolder

You're only here for a short while
When you reach your December
Be the one who raises a smile
Who everyone loves to remember.

The roller coaster goes up and down
Please support your friends
Be the one to help them
And laugh with them 'til the triumph end.
